Gum lifts also known as gingivectomy or gingivoplasty are sometimes helpful for patients with excess gum tissue or uneven gum tissue. Laser assisted gum lifts can be accomplished for cosmetic reasons or to allow for more effective cleansing. The laser can recontour both hard and soft tissue with little to no bleeding, pain or postoperative swelling.
A patient who shows a wide span of gum tissue when they smile may be a candidate for a gum lift prior to placing veneers as part of a smile makeover.
